Kaito Momota was a piece of shit in Japanese. He was rude, offensive, way too abrasiveness, fuck dude, he even called Korekiyo a "fag" at one point, thinking being gay is wrong, calling femininity a weakness, and was super sexist towards Maki.

People are just exaggerating how Kaito is. Kaito is still the same guy. He still pulls Shuichi it of sadness. It's just that some of his dialogue in the Japanese version has more emphasis on his overly-traditional views thanks to how he was raised by his grandparents like Chapter 2 shows.
